won't rent to African Americans - !

Postby newyorkmapleleaf » Fri Jun 17, 2005 11:48 am

A few tenants have told me that they have heard our apartment manager use racial slurs - and when that was brought to my attention I realized that out of 300 rentals - only 2-3 families are black (or bi-racial families actually). That is no where near compatative to the population in our town. It is a private complex which is required to offer some housing on a sliding fee scale. Is there anyway to investigate if this rental manager is turning people away due to race?

What you have right now is hearsay evidence. If you know of a person(s) who were turned down (credit ok) probably due to race, have them file a complaint with the Attorney General's office.
Or you could have one of your friends (that LL doesn't know) place an application and see what happens.
Without solid evidence, this is just a rumor and if you repeat it, could open you to defamation of character lawsuit.
