Lease restriction on occupants

My lease for a 1 bedroom apartment in Brooklyn (not sure if building is rent stabilized, but owner only owns individual unit) restricts number of persons permitted on premises to 1. I belive NY state law allows immediate family to be included, does my lease trump my rights under the state law?
