Changing names on an apartment lease

Today my mother past away,we both have been living in this apartment for 17 years.Her name is on the lease,my name is not.What are my right's?Can the lanlord raise the rent?can i be kicked out?im so confused,please help me.

Do you have any idea whether this is a rent regulated apartment?

Is your apartment covered by rent stabilization, or is it in a subsidized housing project?

If you are in anything other than a subsidized housing project, your mother's estate is probably entitled to possession of the apartment for the remainder of the lease term. When does the lease expire?

After the expiration of the lease, family members have a legal right to succeed to the tenancy only in rent-regulated and federal- or state-subsidized housing projects. It's important to know what your lease says and whether the apartment is subject to any form of government regulation.
