Mitchell-Lama apartments are not governed by the Rent Stabilization Law and Code. AFAIK there is not regulation that prohibits M-L tenants from charging roommates more than a proportionate share of the rent.Elarila wrote:According to rent stabilization laws which ML fall under

I don't think you have your facts correct. Either that or you live in a ML rental and you are profiting from your roommmates. Why would it be legal for people to profit in subsidized housing when the rent is below market value, and not true for rent stabilized? The courts are not favorable to tenants profiting from their roommates in any kind of rental. Have you been reading anything lately? If it's against the law in rent controlled, and rent stabilized then there definitely has to be some kind of regulation in subsidized housing. So far. anything I've read or found that remotely speaks to this matter says that ML falls under the same catagory as rent stabilized.
Is there a lawyer out there somewhere who can speak to this? Who actually know the laws about ML roommate overcharge and where I can go to get the information? And secondly if my rights are being violated and they get evicted for it, why do I have to suffer the same consequences and lose my home? I shouldn't be punished because someone is stealing from me. I don't expect to be able to remain here because it's a 3 bdr. But I should at least have the opportunity to be placed in another apartment. I didn't know it until after I moved in that I was paying most of the rent for all 3 of us.

This was 1996 to 2000.
