structural damage

Postby babayaga » Thu Mar 28, 2024 12:34 pm

Please redirect my posts; I have a feeling, I might be in the wrong section.
About 9 years ago my room (in a SRO hotel) became overrun by mice travelling in and out of my closet. After 6 months!! of this, the landlord finally called in an exterminator who, after pulling back the carpet, diagnosed the problem as a 1-inch gap, (looks to be 15 inches long), between the wall and floor. He called it 'structural damage'. He stuffed the gap with steel wool - problem solved.
Now my flooring needs to be replaced, from carpet to vinyl/laminate. I asked the landlord to have the the steel wool area checked out. After 9 years, perhaps further, underlying conditions have developed. Maybe the steel wool should be replaced with something else. The landlord says the exterminator was wrong. Covering the area with laminate is enough. I want to have an evaluation by a professional.
Does DOB handle issues like this? Do I qualify for an inspection? What are my options? Can't find a place on the DOB website that fits that problem.
Thank you in advance!

No, stay with the original forum at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=15187&p=62844#p62844

I'm locking this thread as we can't have two or more threads on the same issue.
