We left our apartment about 6 months ago, with three months left on a two year lease. The lease said that we can break lease and would not be liable if they re-rented. They gave me an agreement to sign to agree to one month penalty that I never returned.
When we left, (they knew since we had to coordinate the freight elevator), they stormed in and started renovating before we got all of our stuff out.
They kept the security deposit for the last month we were there (no problem), but wouldn't give me a copy of the move-out sheet that indicated no damage.
No I am getting letters saying that they want the one month penalty and another $1,000 for damage.
I think I can win this, but want to know what I can do about this. The LL is a bunch of ()*^*&%.
