Notic To Quit

Postby RPD1971 » Wed Jun 18, 2003 10:11 am

I have been subletting an apartment for 5 years.
The name of the person on the lease died in 1995.
The mgmt company just recently found this out and served me with a "Notice to Quit in 10 Days". It says after 10 days they will start legal proceedings to evict me.
Does anyone have any idea how much time I have before I will actually have to get out of the apartment?
I plan to move out ASAP, but need more than 10 days.
Thanks

Assuming you're not going to fight the eviction--
I guess you could just call the LL's lawyer and say you need a couple of months to get out of the apt. Try to get them to withdraw the eviction suit. If I were in your positiion, my only concern re this situation is that a judgment against you may be picked up by one of those cruddy tenant-checking organizations and make it hard for you to get another apt. in the future.
If they won't do that, think hard about hiring a lawyer to talk sense to them.
Keep in mind that I am a tenant. Not a lawyer!!!!!
