If a co-lessor is removed from lease, do terms of lease

Postby panurge » Thu Nov 07, 2002 3:32 pm

I've lived in a rent-stabilized apartment for 25 years. Recently my co-lessor moved out. We've had both of our names on the lease for the entire 25 years. The landlord called the other day to ask if I wanted his name removed from the lease. I said that that was fine with me. My question is: should the landlord rewrite the lease to be only in my name, do the terms of the lease remain the same?

If the LL sends you a new lease with only your name, then it must be under the same terms and for the same monthly amount. Read it carefully, and don't sign it if the terms are different.
