Anyone Notice - Less Than a Month To Go

Postby MikeW » Mon May 19, 2003 3:09 pm

It's May 19th. Rent regulation expires June 15th. Not a peep has been heard about it for the Governor or State Senate.

Last time around, they loudly exclaimed they were going to kill rent regulation months in advance, only to cave in at the last moment in the face of a looming election. This time around, are they going to keep their mouths shut, maybe create some distractions, and try to let the regulations die quietly? Especially now, since Pataki doesn't face an election for over three years. Now would be the time to inflict the pain, hoping it will be forgotten by 2006.

everything in NY happens at the last minute because the politicians are so incredibly corrupt and slaves to the two party system that dominates Albany.

I think it'll get renewed. I doubt the $2k "luxury" decontrol with get struck down but maybe they'll raise it as they raise the rents.

hmmm

This is what I mean. If no one here seems to care too much, what do you think will motivate Albany. All it takes is one of the big three to say no, and the regs are dead.

Silver didn't even bother to use the budget as leverage to get the regs renewed. Even if Pataki is neutral, Bruno could kill them himself.
