What actually defines rent in arrears?

Can some one tell me what defines, timewise, being in arrears on your rent to the point that action can be taken against you. Don't have a copy of my lease handy.

If your lease, like most leases, states that your rent is due in advance on the first day of the month, then your rent is late at 12:01am on the second of the month. And your LL can serve the rent demand any time after that.

My leases state a date and time when rent needs to be paid. Meaning that the time that rent will become late is at/on 5ht of the month at 5 P.M., no if, and, or butts.
