Obviously take your street shoes off-wear soft sole shoes(sneakers) or slippers. If that doesn't make it better for the tenant downstairs, too bad. Rugs may help, but not if the floors are squeeky and creaky! Don't worry-you can't be evicted for walking in your own apartment.
