I was there....surprised at the ruckus!

did not pick up email first: two urgent msgs like this one:
RGB Emergency!
Rudy pushing Higher Rent Increases Tonight!

June 20 at 4 p.m. -- We just got word from reliable sources within the administration that Mayor Giuliani (through his HPD Commissioner) is mandating a 4% and 6% rent increase WITH a "poor tax" for tonight's vote of the Rent Guidelines Board.

bigmouth with bigfoot in his bigmouth really pushed for that poor tax! landlord guy Castellano (sp?)

chairman is no prize either

well, the fools did it!

here they are:

sublet surcharge: 10%

apartments: 4% 1 yr, 6% 2 yr.

poor tax: none

lofts: 1% 1 yr, 2% 2 yr.

hotels/SRO's: 2%, but only if bldg is 70% occupied by permanent tenants and only if owners tell you your stabilization rights the day you move in (little fuzzy on how that works)

special guidelines (is this even legal?): when rent control apt becomes vacant, rent stabilized rent is 150% of old rent plus fuel adjustment or "fair market rate" (what do they mean?)

look for news: tv, radio, print: loads of reporters were there
