If she can't afford even 1/2 the rent, she needs further assistance than a roommate. What would happen if her roommate doesn't pay the rent on time or moves out ?

Tell your eldery friend about the SCRIE program, available to all low income seniors. Help her apply for affordable housing (and perhaps a smaller apartment). Are her kids aware of the situation ?
