I lived in an house in Rochester, New York that was broken up into three separate apartments. I did not have a lease. I gave notice on November 2, 2000. I reached an agreement with my landlord via email that I would pay 50% of the rent for Decemeber since we did not give notice by the first of the month. When she returned the security deposit she took out the other 50% of the rent and charged my for the entire cost of painting a common hallway.
- What are my rights? Can she charge me rent when I did not have a lease binding me to stay and giving her 30 days notice?
- Can she charge me for a common hallway to be painted?
- Where do I turn from here?
