Meg....you should have followed up with notice when you did not hear from them...In VA, you have the right to a move-out inspection if you request it in writing AND the landlord has to notify you of your right to request this inspection prior to the end of the termination of your lease. The fact that you did not hear from the management for 6+ weeks should have told you to follow up with your notice...that aside, don't pay any more monies AND make request in writing if your deposit is not refunded within the 30 days of your returning the keys as is prescribed under VRLTA. Suing in Small Claims will be a he said/she said situation without you having proof that the notice was provided as required. Good luck.
