Also if you like the apartment otherwise, you could wait til you sign the lease and once you get your signed copy back, then hit them with the news. That way it's already binding and they can't just get mad and tell you to move -- you know, some LL people are nice til they realize they may have to pay for something big and then they are suddenly not nice anymore.
