Does the LL have to fix the floors?

Posted by Marcu on October 31, 2000 at 16:18:07:

I live in a two bedroom apartment for the last three years.

When we moved in, the floors squeaked a bit in all the very common walking areas.

Now, however it's awful. Nearly everywhere you walk the squeaking is so loud, it could wake you up if one has to get up and go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. It is getting worse and we like the place. We don't want to move out but what can be done to stop the squeaking?

Our lease renewal should arrive in November with the 6 percent for two years increase. Should we ask him to lower the increase because of the floors?

We're not complainers. We fix a lot of things ourselves. This, however, is just unbearable. You can't walk anywhere without that loud squeak. We put rugs down in spots but it doesn't help. I have asthma and carpeting is not an option.

Thanks
