I would invite the landlord to come over and hear the squeaking for himself, let him walk around and make some noise. I would videotape walking around the apartment as the appropriate squeaks came out. Keep this for your files, or, if the landlord can't make it over to your place for whatever reason, make a copy and send it with a short polite note explaining what needs to be addressed. Since carpeting is not an option for you, explain this to the landlord as well whether in the note or when he comes over. If he's reasonable and the sound is really that bad, he will figure something out for you. See if he can get the floor fixed without having to tear it out.

If he has to put a new floor down though, be prepared to see the rent go up. I wonder will the squeaking really be loud then?
