LL is the problem tenant

Ok, This is a little complicated:

I live in Nassau, in Oyster Bay town(just to clarify), and have lived in the same apartment(basement, yes I know, illegal) for over 10 years. The problem has only gotten bad over the last year. LL lives upstairs w/2 adult children. The kids are the root of the problem, they like thier music, and like it loud! Also very heavy on the "bass", which basically makes us run from room to room like rats in a maze. Talked to landlords, answer:"tough, they aint changing for you."I need a way to deal with this. I'm past worrying about alienating them, but given the current economic situation, we can't move. Any ideas?

Ask them to move or elevate the speakers - or even put them on a carpet - so the bass doesn't couple as much into the walls.
