Question on evictions

Postby sandryNYC » Wed Sep 04, 2002 1:48 pm

I live in a large rental bldg. in lower manhattan. It's managed by Insignia. I moved to this apartment at the end of April from another state. Of course, my first month was not a problem. However, I skipped my second month (due to a variety of factors, including having payroll checks from out of state clear in NY bank). But I've been paying my rent regularly ever since. I am expecting a sum of money around Sep. 23 that will allow me to pay this back rent. But I've been getting a lot of letters from the LL requesting payment. I just got this enormous legal document requesting payment within 5 days or risking eviction. Is there anything I can do? It's not like I haven't paid rent at all for months. Can I write a letter? Can I negotiate? Please help.
