Reduction/Reimbursement

Postby ariuno » Sat Jun 11, 2011 3:13 pm

I'm just moving into an apartment (first one). Originally, it was supposed to be ready by the first of the month but due to repairs the the landlord requested an additional 48 hours, to which I consented. However, a week later nothing had been done. I spoke to the building owner who said that my next month's rent will be reduced in accordance to the number of days in this month I could not live there. However, I incurred additional commuting expenses due to this (about $230), which would have been avoided altogether had the unit been ready when promised. Can I request even partial reimbursement (I'm willing to prorate the cost of my commuting expense likewise instead of seeking the full amount paid). Or is this a lost cause?

Thanks
