6 month deposit?

Postby <AH> » Mon Mar 18, 2002 2:32 pm

Is it legal for a management company to ask for 6 month deposit?

I'm breaking my lease because of privacy and noise problems and the management company is coming up with all kinds of fees that'll eat my deposit.

Thanks/

If you are not rent stabilized then the landlord can ask for whatever a tenant is willing to pay.

Usually 6 months deposit is for foreigners, who come over and work for places like the United Nations.

Breaking a lease is a no-no unless you have documentation, letters written to the managment, a chance for them to fix the problems, and they refuse to.

And noise is not a reason to break the lease unless you have done the above.

From what I've heard, people who work at the UN, have no credit rating, or social security number, often take a one year lease and their employer pays for a year in advance. Never heard of a six month deposit.

Take a look through last months (February) Forum archives (the link is at the top of the page). Or you can do a search through the past forums.
Try: lease termination, breaking lease
Best of Luck!
