Does Mitchell-Lama allow full-time students?

Postby ladyluck » Mon Sep 18, 2017 8:31 am

Hello all! This forum is a wealth of great info... so glad I found it!

I was born and raised in a lovely Mitchell-Lama complex in Queens. Recently, I found out that my number was selected to be on the short list for another Mitchell-Lama complex in Manhattan. I am elated (though I know it may be a wait from here on out)... just being on "the list" is good enough for me!

I was wondering if Mitchell-Lama allows full-time students to be heads of household. I have a full-time, steady job (I own my own company) and am also finishing my B.A. at the same time. I know that for the various other affordable housing schemes such as 80/20, 421-a, etc. full-time students cannot be heads of household, but Mitchell-Lama is altogether different and I am unsure of the rules. I am so thankful that Mitchell-Lama exists in general, and was just curious.

Can anyone answer or direct me to someone who would know? Thank you for your time.
