No Heat, Tenant said he will be increasing rent

Postby rupomrupom » Sat Mar 29, 2014 4:47 pm

Hi,
First when we took this apartment (1st floor in 3 family house) last year May,
Landlord mentioned they are not going to increase the rent unless we break any rules.
Which we never did break any rules and paid on time, kept the house real nice and clean.
Starting this winter, he regulated the heat, and it kept at 68-70, he said he will not increase, i was fine since it was the law.
THen from last week he stopped the heat. today when i asked him, It was 65 inside, outside 43. He said it is already april and it is realy nice outside.

And for house i can keep it at 65 or 66. 311 complain will not do anything.
Because he is having high bill so he is not turning that on.
And he also mentioned, since he is getting high bill , he will be increasing the rent after my next month lease end.
Now i am sure about this, he wants us out because now he can rent it in higher rent.
I can take maybe 50/100 increase , but if he increase more , it is really hard to find another good apartment in NYC.
Can i stay as long as i do not find any other place?
What is my option?
