Is My Apartment Rent Stabilized

Postby WO802 » Thu Aug 25, 2022 5:49 pm

Hello! I recently received a copy of my apartment registration information and was surprised to see that my specific unit was categorized as "RS" (rent stabilized) from 1992 to 2002. In mid-July of 2003 the status switched from "RS" to "PE." Underneath "PE" the phrase "High Rent Vacancy" is listed. From that point forward (2004 - present), the status is recorded as "*Exempt Apartment - Reg. Not Required*"

I'm not sure what this means and wondered if someone could explain. Is there any chance that this unit is still supposed to be rent stabilized? And if so, I'd love some guidance around where I can do a little more digging... THANK YOU!

If you use firefox on the upper right side you will see 3 lines/bars. left click and select ' Find in page ' Put in your address or zip code it took me awhile to find my building.

Thanks Cylon42,

But be aware that only includes buildings in which there might be one or more RS units, and AFAIK, that comes from LLs own registrations, so if they don't register, then it would not be on the list. A hit on the list is a good place to look, but it's not legal proof that a particular unit is or was RS (which the tenant already knows). It's just a piece of the puzzle.
