Digital Key Card vs. Physical Keys

Postby chill tenant » Tue Sep 03, 2019 7:55 pm

One of the previous trials I had ended with me having to pay an outstanding balance to LL and him to provide me physical keys to the side entrance.

Everyone else was using a key card for the side entrance.

The building recently got sold and the new LL changed the side door and removed the lock.
Now the new LL didn't offer me a Key card, although I am sure they will be glad to.

I on the other hand need to have a physical key for religious and convenience purposes.

Can I get the judge to force the new LL to put the lock back and give provide me the keys as the old LL did pursuant to the previous order?

Is there an update on this story? https://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/qu ... -1.2311349

Did they win?

Will I win if I bring this as the reason for not paying rent during a new non payment trial?

Thanks

Is the news article regarding your building, or just a similar situation?

We can't say what a new judge will do, but it seems to us if you have a prior order, then that decision should stand.

Also, being rent stab tenants, they cannot reduce required services, and it seems a physical key would fall into that category (like a doorman or elevator attendant).

If you wish to bring suit, you should speak with a tenant attorney.
