Landlady is being sued

Postby Emma Cook » Thu Jul 15, 2004 8:43 am

Our landlady is being sued by the condo board of our building. From what we understand she has had a long standing dispute with them about some repairs that were done on the roof of the building, she says without her being consulted and they were done incorrectly. Therefore, she has been withholding her maintenance fees for quite some time and she owes them $6000. They have a lien on the apartment and a few weeks ago we were served with papers that say that there will be a foreclosure on the apartment if she fails to pay. Our problem now is that:
1. We can't get any solid information out of the condo board (only a six apartment building and we know two of the couples there - but all they will tell us is that 'the ball is in our landlady's court') about whether she will pay and how long they are giving her.
2. Whether our names appearing on these papers as tenants will affect our ability to get another apartment.
3. Will we be given notice of our eviction should the foreclosure go through - how long will we have to vacate the apartment at that stage?

If anyone can help we'd be very grateful - thanks!
