corrupt judge

Postby zara » Wed May 31, 2006 11:57 pm

I am posting this for someone who went through something strange in housing court. Her attorney filed an appeal and a certain amount of money was requested to be put in escrow. Then additional money was asked for - a total of $10,00. A few months later the judge asked for another $5000 as if only $5000 had been put in escrow instead of 10,000. Her attorney had proof of the $10,000 but the judge wasn't interested. The tenant strongly suspects that the judge is paid off or corrupt. Besides Judicial Review, is there any way to report this in the Housing Court itself?

Also, she said that the landlord's case is being presented by someone who is not the attorney of record.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Housing Court judges are not constitutional judges subject to discipline by the Commission on Judidical Conduct, but instead are the equivalent of judicial hearing officers, appointed by the Chief Administrator of the Courts. Complaints about a Housing Court judge can be directed to any of the following:

The Administrative Judge of the Civil Court of the City of New York:

Hon. Fern Fisher
Administrative Judge
Civil Court of the City of New York
111 Centre Street
New York, NY 10013
646-386-5400

The Chief Administrative Judge of New York:

Hon. Jonathan Lippman
Office of Court Administration
25 Beaver Street
New York, NY 10004
(212) 428-2100

The Office of Court Administration Inspector General:

Inspector General
Office of Court Administration
