I moved into my 1 bedroom apartment over a year ago. The apartment house is in shambles. There are so many violations through out the building, i don't even know where to start!
When my kitchen ceiling collapsed, I decided to go on rent strike. I realized that my landlord would be the type of person to wait for me to move out instead of taking me to housing court. That is exactly what he did, so i never put my funds into an escrow account. $12,600.00 of back rent is due, and nothing has changed in this building. I can't take the perpetual leak that runs through, and I fear a collapse. I'm moving in 2 weeks.
Here's the issue::
I fear for the people in this building. They are non english speaking immigrants. I highly doubt that they will call the building inspectors. I feel that I should do it, and think that the building will be condemned. I can't let them live here with their children!
If I go through with it, instead of just leaving, will I have to go to court? What will happen to the people in this building? Who do i contact?
Thanks in advance!
