complicated...rent stabilized but injured in bldg

Postby roja93 » Mon Jun 02, 2003 9:23 pm

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting. I live in a rent-stabilized bldg. in a very gentrified area in Bklyn. I've been in my apt. for 8 years and my landlord has been harassing me for the past 3-4 years. Since I was laid off--result of 9/11--I've only had unemployment and then some minor temp work.

Here's the thing...my latest court date was Thursday, and ironically, on my way to court I slipped on newly waxed floors (no signs) and broke my ankle. So any income I could come up with is moot for the next 8 weeks--way past my latest payment agreement in court. So I'm wondering if anyone has advice on what my next step should be, if you have any websites or legal advice on how to handle this.

I'm not trying to get rich off this injury. I'm actually stressed that everyone I know is urging me to sue. If I could just get the payment agreement settled, that would be enough. But everything's up in the air at the moment, and I'm in pain still, so I can't even think too hard on it all.

Thanks for any info.

Ann
