Judges always get the same assignments?

Postby HardKnocks » Mon Jun 16, 2003 5:29 pm

Do you guys know if Housing Court judges routinely get the same part/room?

The reason I ask is that I looked up then assignments to get the lowdown on the judge for when I go to court Wed. (see "Can my ex-landlord really sue?" on the general discussion board) and it's only updated to June 13... but if the assignments are the same for this week, the judge hearing my case is someone who used to work for my ex-landlord's lawyer! She was a lawyer in the firm that's suing me!!!!!

We post the court assignments (available from the home page) when we get them from our source. If you feel the connection is too close, ask the judge to recuse. (the judge should make the offer).

Thank you, TenantNet, for replying.

Does anyone know if it would make me look bad to bring this up? Would it just piss the judge off, and would she have the right to still hear my case despite what looks to be a conflict of interest? I mean, she could very easily be all chummy behind the scenes with the lawyer who's up against me if she used to work there.

I swear, this would only happen to me...

I won my case, thank you very much. The loser (not "looser") here happened to be the landlord, trying to get money from me for an apt. I had moved out of months before, and he had already re-rented before I left. HELLO.

Don't assume that the tenant is always the "loser" in these cases. I paid my rent on time and in full for well over five years--WHEN I ACTUALLY LIVED THERE. And obviously simple greed is not an adequate legal argument. They dropped the case like a stone as soon as we got to court because they knew they didn't have a leg to stand on.

Good going girls!!! How did you get that pop-up figure? Not every landlord wins in Court -- though it sometimes feels like it!
Housing Court seems to be like a small village -- I don't know HOW WELL ALL THE JUDGES KNOW THE LAWYERS, but the lawyers ALL seem to know each other!
