Most NY Courts to Close Friday to Honor Reagan

June 9, 2004

City and state courts in New York will be closed Friday, the New York Law Journal reports.

The closure is to observe a national day of mourning for President Ronald W. Reagan, Chief Administrative Judge Jonathan Lippman announced yesterday.

Criminal cases, however, will continue to be arraigned and judges will be available to handle requests for orders of protection and similar emergencies.

Separately, Governor George E. Pataki yesterday ordered state offices closed on Friday.

The city and state courts join the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District, which announced Monday they will be closed on Friday. District courts will be open for emergency applications only.
