Posting of URLs

Postby TenantNet » Tue Oct 31, 2006 9:00 pm

When users post a link to another page, there are times when very long URLs (the web address) have the effect of pushing the page out to the right. While it doesn't break the system, it looks pretty bad and can be annoying.

There is a simple fix and we ask our users to try to implement this whenever possible. Instead of posting the entire URL, you should hide the actual URL in a link embedded in your text, such a go HERE.

In this example, clicking on the word "here" also takes you to the outside link.

You can do this through the use of BBcode. Just surround the word with the URL tags and insert the address in the first tag. You can highlight the word and hit the URL tag button over the New Post edit box.

This doesn't matter so much with short URLs.

An example:

Go [url=http://www.example.com]here[/url]

... makes the word 'here' a link to the outside URL.
