Do I have to provide roommate with copy of main lease??

Postby RileyBrown » Tue Dec 01, 2020 8:24 am

I am the main/solo tenant on a market rate lease. I have a written agreement with a roommate who is not on the main lease. He is demanding a copy of the main lease. Am I legally obligated to provide it? If he bypasses me and asks the landlord, is she legally obligated to provide it?

I won't go into details about why he's demanding it since it's kind of irrelevant to my question.

Thank you!

As far as I know, there is no law that requires you to give the roommate a copy of the lease. But there is nothing to prevent you from doing that either.

Many years ago I had a sublet for a few months. I showed him my lease so he knew what I was paying and that I was not overcharging him. A little honesty helped.

I don't think there is any law that prevents the LL from showing a lease copy. But most LLs would be somewhat secretive about things like that.
