Please ignore the two satori replies. DK knows. So do I: I paid less than my landlord billed for years. Wrote: total rent due, legal rent paid in full, various things like that on the memo line and/or on the back of the check, wrote letters, made phone calls, showed up in person. Everything except "specifically said at the time of delivery of the check that it should be returned if it would not be accepted as a full settlement of the amount due". After each of the first three cycles of months of overbilling, they eventually corrected their records. For the fourth cycle: they sued me for non-payment of rent! They lost, of course, but what a hassle! Five hours in room 107 for 5 minutes of "justice".
