Pay Rent During Ceiling Repair?

Posted by Gabriel Friedman on March 08, 1999 at 17:02:58:

Last week most of the plaster on my kitchen ceiling collapsed - it's an old building, but not terribly neglected.
The landlord scheduled his maintenance guy to repair it this week, estimating it would take 5 working days (to redo the whole ceiling)

I work at home, so for those 5 days I'll need to work elsewhere, which won't cost me money,
just inconvenience.

My question is (and this may sound a bit selfish given the severity of some problems on this list):
Am I obligated to pay rent for the 5 days, given that I basically can't live in my apartment? Or should I be grateful I have a landlord who makes prompt repairs?
I'm guessing the latter, but I'm curious what others have done in this situation.

Thanks for any feedback.
