: Can a landlord who wants me to move out offer me money?

WHY NOT? If the price is right, you might want to accept the offer. But try to find out why the landlord is making the offer. He might want to sell the building, and a vacant apartment or a vacant building might be more valuable. If this in New York or another area with rent regulation, he might be able to de-regulate the apartment or get a much higher rent if you move out. Figure how much moving out is worth to you AND to the landlord before you decide whether to accept an offer to move out.
