Is your apartment subject to rent stabilization. If so, the landlord is required to offer you a renewal lease.

If you are not regulated, then generally there is no requirement that the landlord offer you a renewal lease. You become a month-to-month tenant.

: I have been living in my place for 10 months -- the first 6 I had a lease -- I have been without a lease since. Is there any way I can compel my landlord to give me a lease?
