: The management company should rekey the locks for a new and different set of keys from those that the other tenant took with him. This is usually an instant response because a tenant who keeps keys after a lease expires is usually trying to copy them, so as to do harm to the former landlord's property. Some harm could come to you if you were to be in the apartment without having the locks changed, since the former tenant is going to regard you as a witness to be made to be quiet, forever.
