As sad as it was for me, I had to find the right firemen to file violations
against my landlord.The supervisor of the fire dept when I called and when
they came to my apt. said "you do not have and illegal gate on your window going
out to the fire escape and he does not have to replace it with a legal one."
However, I found a way around all there bull. I found a clause in the
law, which states that a tenant cannot be penalized for calling the
goverment about violations in and apt or building. So I kept calling
the government inspectors till I found one to get off his fat ass
and give the landlord the violations that were obvious to the eye.
.Take the landlord to court to about violations, also if that won't work.
