The laws concerning landlord-provided security are currently changing. But not quickly and not sufficiently. Right now, a landlord MUST provide what is called "reasonable" security for tenants in their buildings. Vague. But it's there. If you are injured because of your landlord's failure to provide "reasonable" security which would have avoided your injury, s/he will be held accountable. You might want to stress this if/when you communicate with yours. Do so in writing. Keep proof of your correspondence and replies. Photos help too. And you might want to add that you will hold the landlord responsible should harm come to you, your belongings, your premises. Couldn't hurt. But prepare for some slack from the LL.
