I am sharing a one bedroom apartment in Queens, NY with a friend. The lease is
under my name. My roommate's mother decided to make a set of keys
to the apartment and moved in without discussing it with me first. At first
I was understanding. I let her stay in our apartment without any arguement,
rent-free. It's been 3 months now, she's still here. She's a very rude and
demanding guest. I want her out. She will not leave and insists that she has
rights to stay here. She has established a relationship with the landlord since
the first day of the lease. Now she screams at me and declares that this is her
apartment because she found the apartment for us in the papers although she
doesn't pay any rent. This has turned real ugly. Do I have the right to throw
her out and change the locks? I can not live like this. Please help!!!
