: I rent the basement of a group house in VA. It is w-w carpeted, and one of my roommates did laundry Fri while I was at work - somehow the the laundry sink overflowed all over the place. I have done laundry since and did not have this problem...I dont know what they did. Now my personal belongings are wet, not to mention the entire hallway carpet. I informed my landlord on Fri night, and as of Sun night noone has been out to dry/replace the carpet. I DO NOT HAVE A LEASE. This is a short term month to month rental. What are my options? I would like to replace the carpet and take the money off my rent, as well as withhold a daily amount for inconvenience for every day the carpet is wet. Plus my personal belongings. HELP!!

You want your landlord to pay for damage that was caused by the negligence of
your roommate??? Sounds like your roommate needs to pay for replacing the
carpet and replacement of any personal belongings that were ruined.
