Rent deductions

Posted by Murat Erdem on November 30, 1999 at 17:12:24:

Hi,
I am from Boston, MA. I rented my apartment 3 months ago with a written lease.
The lease includes the clause "Heating and hot water included".
My landlord refused to pay for gas bill. His claim is that he did not carefully read
the lease before signing it. By the way I rented my place from a realtor.
Even if we called him 3 times, he refused. In the last call we told that we were
going to deduct the gas bill from our rent and send him the bill.
Our gas is currently cut because of non-payment.
Do I have a right to deduct this money from gas bill ?
Does gas company have the right to cut my gas in the middle of winter ?
Please advice...
