Thinking of Jumping Ship Before Lease Expires--Any Suggestions???????

Posted by Bummed In Albany on November 26, 1999 at 14:58:47:

I am in a 6-month lease--3 months down, 3 months to go. However, I lost my job and now must relocate for another job. The leasing company told me
they'd let me out of the lease if I move out by Jan. 1st, plus give them two month's rent and forfeit the security deposit. (They would not hold me
to the final month's rent)

I don't have the money and am thinking of disappearing into the woodwork. I'm going to leave in late Dec., leave the place spotlessly clean, and write an
apology letter. What are the chances that the leasing management company will go after me? find me? sue? If they do sue, what are the chances
the court will be sympathetic?

I live in Albany, New York in a multi-unit building.

Thanks.
