Anticipating security deposit problem...

Posted by Lis Hobert on October 14, 1999 at 16:22:40:

I live in a one bedroom, three-unit building in the city of Albany, NY. My 1 year lease expires on Oct. 31st. I have done everything my lease has told me to, including giving a 45-day notice of leaving.

I anticipate a problem with my security deposit being returned. I have read many things about the apt. being "broom clean" when you leave.

The apartment was painted and the rugs were shampooed when I moved in.
The walls do need to be painted again, as I spackled my thumbtack holes already, but the rugs do not need cleaning in my estimation.

My Question is: Is painting walls and shampooings rugs part of "normal wear and tear" and not subject to witholding a security deposit?

Thanks in advance for your help!
