To those asking questions: There are experienced tenants (and even a few attorneys) that frequent this message board who are willing to help you with their knowledge. In asking questions, please provide the following information: your city/location, if you are rent stabilized, rent controlled or under another form of rent regulation or subsidy, if you have a written lease, the number of units in building, approximately when it was built and if it is a coop or condo. If you provide this information, you are more likely to get an answer to your query.

: Question: I called my landlord today to let her know that I would be a few days late with the rent due to the fact that I am waiting on checks from the last few jobs I did. Her response was to "Get out." I don't really have a problem with this as I think that I have been paying too much anyway. The thing I need to know is how long do I have to vacate the apt? Do I need to get out this weekend or do I have a little time to find a new place? Thanks.
