being sued by landlord

Posted by Joe on September 21, 1999 at 06:22:56:

Rented a small apartment in Cobleskill, NY. No lease. Only 4 units in building. I left
because of cockroaches. Landlord accepted security as last month rent. 2 mos.
after I left police called me in and told me landlord was now claiming $350 in
damages. (painting) Now, 2 mos. after that encounter I am to appear in small
claims court for $690. (painting, wallboard, garbage removal) Doesn't his acceptance of
security for rent acknowledge that there was no damage to apartment? He certainly had been in
it enough to know what condition it was in while we were there.
