It is not legal for your landlord to impose a late fee if there is no provision in your lease for a late fee. Even if there is a provision in your lease for a late fee, $25 may be too high, depending on your rent. Courts have ruled that late fees greater than 4% or 5% are excessive.

Use the general search on TenantNet and the specific search under Housing Court Decisions for "late fee."
