Landlord charging us his lodging and lawyer costs !!! Can he??

Posted by M Gleason on September 02, 1999 at 14:34:57:

We reside in Nebraska. Previously I posted a message regarding our landlord and home
owner recinding an option to purchase. They did this 3 days before our lease was
to expire, after leading us to believe they were selling to us. Then they
expected us to be out in 4 days. No notice just we decide not to sell and
get out. Anyway, our lawyers and others said no way they need to give notice.
Well, they found this out too and now our lawyer received a letter stating
that they are giving us a notice that is charging us for September rent
which we already offered to pay) and their lodging costs per diem until they
are back in this property. They also are charging us for their lawyer fees.
They've admitted to negotiating w/us about the house and formally rejecting
offer on the 30th. (by phone on the 27th)Lawyer said that it might boil
down to he said she said and who believes who, but is there anyway we are
responsible for their costs?? Seems unfathomable we will be out and in a
new house probably by the time it gets to court. ...Please help can't keep
paying for their mistakes.
